LOG LINE: A young man learns of the world around him and decides to follow in his fathers footsteps and begins to fulfill his destiny with friends and foes.

SUMMARY: Luke Skywalker is a young man that lives with his aunt and uncle on a planet that is part of a ficitonal universe. He is hopeful to go away with friends to an academy but his uncle is very dependent of Luke and asks him to stay on their farm for another season. As tensions grow between them an evil emporer has taken over the entire galaxy by getting rid of the old Republic. The evil emporer has done this by creating a battle station more powerful than all other space crafts in the galaxy and it is called The Death Star. As the evil emporer’s apprentice takes action, a young princess is captured and forced to tell the apprentice where her rebel friends are hiding. Luckily the princess, Leia Organa, has shipped the Death Star’s technical diagram inside a message of a trustworthy droid and for it to be brought to a good man of power much like the evil emporer. The apprentice named Darth Vader sees to it that Leia give up the coordinates of the rebel alliance. Luke has come across the message carrying droid and also the powerfully good man named Obi-Wan Kenobi. Together they decide to aid the princess and come upon a smuggler and a Wookie that will help them reach their destination. As Luke and Obi-Wan travel they unknowingly come into contact with the princess and Darth Vader. As a team Luke, Leia, the smuggler (Han Solo), the Wookie (Chewbacca), and Obi-Wan they rescue the princess and Luke must continue his destiny without his master. Once the plans within the droid have been safely brought to the rebels the mission of destroying the battle station begins. Luke successfully destroys the Death Star with the help of Jedi Master Kenobi and Han Solo. Luke, Han, and Chewbacca are awarded heroic medals from the rebels and are joined in friendship with Leia.

COMMENTS: The plot of this film becomes more and more complex as we watch but if we do not begin with the first film then it is quite difficult to know the backstory and correctly begin a character development. The special effects are quite advanced for the time it was produced and made this film hard to take my eyes off. With the combination of the plot, the characters, the effects, and the dialogue my view of movies within the fantasy/ action genre became more of a consideration into a recommendation.

The plot was well developed from the very first scene because although we did not know the backstory for “A New Hope” we could tell that there was one. The fact that we were already thinking of this stories past made this film recommendation appropriate. As we near the end of this wonderful and action packed extarvaganza, the audience hopes that soon and very soon they will be able to know more and more about the characters and all that has happened around these dynamic characters.
